A recipe for more disasters .

The public and parliamentary response to the recent Queensland floods ( just for eg) show that we are losing sight of how to properly respond – no policy doc will help if we ignore responsibility issues .( see links below ) Governments who allow other people to continue to live in disaster area are not responsible , and yet we all pay , Similar with Vic Bushfires . It's a recipe for more disasters .

I posted an analysis of the impact of on orographic influence on the huge 24 hour totals you can get in a certain situation where moisture laden winds keep coming at a mountain .Unfortunately I can't find it --- it maybe in swearthnews somewhere

The Australian Design Runoff curves are clearly inadequate in such situations .
The good news is having seen them in the Otways with easterlies and the country on the east coast , we can design for them." The idea being that the rate per hour is not as significant as the long hours of rainfall.
While it may not mean the media can so easily call such events disasters - we MIGHT be better prepared for such events in the areas where they can occur .
